Stephen Scully turned 11 years old this month. This is an amazing feat for Stephen, since he was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type l when he was born. Babies diagnosed with SMA Type 1 do not generally live past two years of age. Stephen has only recently been placed under the care of hospice.
On Saturday, January 11, 2013, Stephen was personally honored by a 3 Star General along with members of our Armed Forces, retired and active. There was also an amazing display of monster trucks, along with a dragster which the crew happily revved up the engine to the delight of everyone.
On Sunday, January 12, 2013, a birthday party was held for Stephen where he was named an honorary member of the Frenchtown Police Department and Frenchtown Fire Department. Stephen had told us that his favorite Nascar driver is Tony Stewart. During the party, Stephen was presented with a personal letter from Tony Stewart read to him by his mother. Stephen and his family will also have the opportunity to attend a Nascar race at Dover International Speedway and will personally get to meet Tony Stewart and other Nascar drivers. Stephen also received many other amazing gifts from each of the organizations in attendance. I would like to thank the following for all you did to make this day one of the best birthdays that Steven has ever celebrated: Lt. Joe Greco, Jennifer Terepka, Tony Stewart, Joe Morrison, Frenchtown Police Department, New Jersey State Police Kingwood barracks, Raritan Township Police Department, Flemington Police Department, Helpful Hearts, Vietnam Vets, New Jersey Army National Guard, Baptistown Baptist Church, Heather Nerwinski, Michele Guglielmo and so many others. To all, I extend my deepest gratitude for making this day possible.
