Chief Kurylka is advising businesses and residents of a telephone scam. This agency is investigating an incident where a business owner in town was contacted from a person claiming they were from JCP&L, and requesting payment over the telephone.
JCP&L employees do not ask for sensitive information such as social security numbers or bank account numbers. In addition, JCP&L employees do not ask customers to provide a copy of their electric bill.
If you have any doubts about a caller claiming to represent JCP&L or First Energy, or about the information they are being asked to provide, they can call JCP&L at 1-800-662-3115 for verification. If the caller is a scammer, you should contact your local police department to report the fraud.
